RPG Hands-On Lab – All Day

Attendee requirements:

Laptop with Rational Developer for i installed (Link to download Rational Developer).

Some programming experience.

This combined lecture and lab is geared to attendees that are new to using Rational Developer for i (RDi) and writing “Free Form” ILE RPG. The session will take the attendee through the process of developing a CRUD application using Free Form RPG and RDi’s (Remote Systems Explorer and Screen Designer).

The lab is designed so that a person new to IBM i development can learn how to code an interactive application using RDi. The seasoned IBM i programmer will benefit by using new RPG programming techniques and exposure using RDi’s Remote Systems Explorer (RSE) and Screen Designer

  1. Developing 5250 Screens with RDi’s Screen Designer.
  2. Use of Free Format RPG operations and functions.
  3. Use of SQL in an RPG Service program
  4. Use of subprocedures, modules and service programs in modern RPG applications
